Cancer Research Supports the Benefits of CBD for Breast Cancer

Dr Austin Quon,

American Cancer Society states last year there were an estimated 40,000 deaths from breast cancer in 2018 to date. Just in 2018 alone so far, there have been 266,120 new cases of breast cancer and 1 in 10 women will be affected by breast cancer at some point in their lives.

Cannabidiol (CBD) works on the human endocannabinoid system, groups of receptors on every cell, organ, and tissue in the body and is able to regulate homeostasis and equilibrium in the body’s cells. A key process in the creation and elimination of dying, pathological, and cancerous cells, are processes called apoptosis and autophagy. These mechanisms are key in the natural, N8 cellular immune response.

A 2011 study from the Molecular Cancer Therapeutics Journal 2011 demonstrates CBD ultimately activates the intrinsic apoptotic pathway in breast cancer cells, signalling cancerous cells to commit the equivalent of cell suicide. Another study in the British Pharmacological Society Journals 2014 documented CBD reduced breast cancer metastasis, even in Stage 3 and 4 by down-regulating ID-1 gene expression. Furthermore, the 2011 Breast Cancer Research journal noted CBD has the ability to reduce not only the primary tumor mass but also the size and number of lung metastasis in mice models. The growing body of research suggests a role of the endocannabinoid system in cancer treatment and nutritional preventative measures.

Natural, phytocannabinoids have been patented by pharmaceutical companies to create synthetic CBD drugs. A study from the journal of Current Medical Chemistry supports the use of PLANT-BASED cannabinoids for their therapeutic benefits in treating a variety of cancers, including breast cancer.
