Studies show Cannabidiol (CBD) as a Safe & Effective Treatment for Seizure Disorders

Traditional medical treatment of seizure disorders including refractory epilepsy, Dravet’s Syndrome, and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, has been evaluated by the Pharmacological Reviews Journal in July 2016. Recently, lawsuits over serious concerns regarding the side effects of anti-epileptic drugs to cause or worsen hostile and aggressive behaviour have been the topic of discussion amongst parents and family affected by seizures disorders.

Studies show that epilepsy is resistance to drug-treatment more than 30% of the time and is associated with severe morbidity and increased mortality. In order to avoid the side effects of medication, scientists have investigated the use of cannabidiol (CBD) as an adjunctive and alternative treatment. CBD acts on the endogenous cannabinoid receptors in the brain and central nervous system and regulates excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmission, that is often dysfunctional in people with seizure disorders.

Phytocannabinoids and cannabidiol (CBD) have experimented in children with seizures. A study from the Epilepsy Behavior Journal May 2017 supports the use of CBD as an effective and adequately safe for administration to children. Studies from the Epilepsia Journal June 2014 concluded there is significant evidence for the anticonvulsant properties of CBD, with low risk of side-effect profile.

Another study from the 2017 neurology research international volume reported 81% of cases saw a decrease in convulsions following CBD treatments, and 16% reported being completely seizure-free with pure CBD hemp oil.

Additionally, scientists have declared in a review of literature conducted in 2017 Journal of Epilepsy Research that for the first time, there is conclusive evidence for the use of CBD improves seizure control.
